In use since 2012, Calgary's "Peace Bridge" connects the Northern with the Southern Bow River pathway and allows thousands of people every day to commute to and from work. It was designed by Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava. While the bridge's architecture is intriguing enough when seen from inside its covered tube, I found the angle from below, which additionally allows a view onto Calgary's downtown skyline, even more fascinating.
Eagle River valley in Alaska.
While Anchorage, only around 30 minutes driving away, at that time of the year, is only slowly preparing for the winter, up here in the Eagle River valley the winter had already arrived with temperatures below 0°C almost all day long and permanent snow. A perfect time to go on a hike here, especially when the weather is as perfectly fine as it was when this photo was taken. Some trails were closed due to increased bear presence but there were enough left open to hike for at least a full day.
When hiking in Alaska one has to take additional precautions. Additionally to catering for the terrain by wearing decent shoes, and for the weather with adequate clothing, one has to consider the possibility of encountering large wild animals like moose or bears. So before venturing out into the wild, one should make oneself familiar with the specific precautions to take.

The Masjid Sultan's construction began in 1924 on the site of an older mosque which had become obsolete. Named after Hussein Mua'zzam Shah ibni Mahmud Shah Alam, Sultan of Singapore in the early 1800s, the mosque was completed in 1932. During the war in the 1940s, the mosque served as a shelter to people of different ethnicities and creeds.
Nowadays it remains an important point of prayer for Singapore's muslims and the pedestrian street leading up to it is buzzing with people having a bite in one of the many restaurants or just coming by for some shopping.
Hiking around Mount Rainier is a very rewarding experience for nature lovers. And with a tiny bit of adventurous spirit one may even discover some hidden gems like the Ruby Falls . They are part of the Paradise River which emanates from Mount Rainier's Paradise Glacier and eventually flows in Nisqually River which again flows into Puget Sound.
